THE immediate past Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura yesterday led others in making the maiden flight from the Lafia cargo airport, a project constructed by his administration.
Al-Makura took off from the airport with some members of his family and aides after handing over power to his successor, Abdullahi Sule.
He took off at exactly 1:45pm on a chartered flight HS-125 with registration number T7-AAK.
Speaking before the taking off, the former governor said he felt fulfilled by taking the first flight from the airport.
“I feel fulfilled, I feel grateful to the Almighty God for making it possible to make a promise and fulfill it. If I should tell you what is in my mind, I am over joyed; I am excited.
“I am privileged, I am lucky that today being the last day in office, is coinciding with the first maiden flight at Lafia Airport,” Al-Makura said.
The consultant of the airport, Captain Bala Jibrin, who is the pilot of one of the chartered three aircrafts that landed, said the project is yet to be completed.
Jibrin, who said it was a visual landing, also said it was a test flight to make sure the work is done correctly from the pilot’s point of view.
